Sylvester left after our meeting with the fairies—and after giving me a lovely parting hug.

I suspected he’d decided not to wait to have that chat with my neighbor, but the excuse he’d made was that we should both rest this evening, since we’d be up late tonight breaking into Silver Stripe.

I’d gone from IT professional, to magical book editor, to barista, to criminal. Gosh, but my life had taken some twists lately.

Our agenda for tomorrow wasn’t much better. We planned to check out Devon’s apartment. The idea of prying in a dead man’s affairs, digging through his possessions and his personal life, felt less icky than I expected.

Probably because the same source that had tried to protect me from a peeping Tom had also claimed that Devon Simms was a “bad witch.”

Whatever Devon’s father and uncle thought of him, I refused to discount the fairies’ claim. They’d gone from foolish pranksters to reputable source in the time it had taken me to realize that…

One: my neighbor was a pervert.

Two: I was indeed blind.

And three: I needed to reevaluate every single “trick” and “prank” I thought the fairies had played on me.

After I showered and before I climbed into bed at a ridiculously early hour, I scrounged in my fridge and cupboards for snacks. I picked a colorful plastic outdoor platter as the serving dish and filled it with what treats I could find. Then I raided my bookshelf for a good romance.

Once the platter, the book, and a warm blanket were all placed on my woodpile, then I climbed into bed.
